
Shangri-La Chiang Mai is back again continuing their highly popular and successful unique culinary endeavors. These culinary experiences that have bee put together continue delight Chiang Mai’s gastronomy enthusiasts. This new event will bring Chef Leung Yu King, who has been a part of the Michelin-starred Summer Palace team at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong. Chef Leung Yu King will be serving authentic Cantonese and seasonal favorites.

Chef Leung launched his culinary journey when he was only eighteen years old and has accumulated over 30 years of expertise in the profession. His father, being a chef, was the most significant influence to his interest in cooking. Because of this upbringing, he has always been familiar with Cantonese cuisine. He joined the opening team of Summer Palace in 1991 as the third fryer and worked his way up to become the Assistant Executive Chinese Chef in 2014. During his years at Summer Palace, Chef Leung worked alongside two former head chefs, Lee Keung, and Ip Chi Cheung. Collectively, they enabled the restaurant to win many international awards and honors. Most notably being recognized as a Michelin-starred establishment for eight consecutive years. To which Chef Leung’s hardworking characteristics and culinary prowess have contributed significantly.

Chef Leung’s cooking philosophy is paring novel ingredient with traditional Cantonese cooking. He also likes to incorporate on-trend healthy food into traditional Cantonese cooking. For example, his version of a classic Summer Palace dish Steamed fresh crab claw with winter melon in egg white and mashed Yunnan ham, by replacing the traditional ingredients with healthier alternatives like millet and fresh yam.
