After a string, of culinary endeavors that brought world-renowned Michelin star Chefs from Italian, Chinese and French gastronomy backgrounds in 2018, Shangri-La continues its mission to shape and elevate the culinary experience in Chiang Mai. The quality and level of talents they continue to bring for their events speaks volumes of their love and dedication for fine cuisine. Determined to be the ones to usher in a new era of gastronomy, Shangri-La wastes no time in executing their next culinary effort.
Only two weeks into the new year and Shangri-La has already announced their next event, a Winter Italian Culinary Festival. A journey which will see three different chefs introduce their menus during a span of three months. Starring Chefs from 1 and 2 Michelin star rated restaurants. These next couple of months will be an experience Chiang Mai Foodies cannot miss. Doing the honors to launch the first event is Michelin Star Chef Marco Stabile.
If this name sounds familiar, it is because this is the second-time Chef Marco will be making an appearance in Chiang Mai. The first-time Chef took us on a unique journey through Northern Italian flavors. A trip where we got to experience a one-of-a-kind meal that paid respect to not only the roots but the future of Northern Italian flavors. Chef Marco spoke of family and traditions when he explained the dishes that sat before us at the table. The love for his culture and history resonated not only in his words but in his complex signature dish, “Tuscan Grandmother Rituals”. A dish that represented all his fond memories at his grandmothers’ table.
Fast Forward to 2019, in Chef Marco Stabile sophomoric appearance, he will again try to wow the culinary enthusiast of Chiang Mai. Having created a new menu that Chef has been quoted saying that will have “Dishes from Tuscany with Oriental influence.” It is always exciting to see a Chef of this caliber go into a different country and incorporate the flavors. With this being his second visit it is even more interesting since he is now more familiar with Chiang Mai. Visiting the neighborhood markets, seeing local produce and understanding what it can have to offer can always influence a menu. It will be intriguing to see what will be incorporated into this new menu.
As for what might be a standout on the new menu? Chef Marco teased that we should keep an eye out on the “black cod with Vin Santo teriyaki sauce” and “slow cooked Potato Under Cinder” because as he puts it this “will be a very gastronomic surprise in the simplicity…”
