As Thailand gets further influenced by western foods and fads, the rise of the Burger in Chiang Mai is something that was not that surprising. While locals and foreigners alike crave burgers, many restaurants have been opened that serve this American Classic. From little corner shacks to gourmet style burgers, there is something for everyone in Chiang Mai. However, KIN Soy milk&Burger I can wholeheartedly say it is one of a kind in its execution.
We all have been through a similar scenario, as a couple or as a group of friends. One of us has a craving for a particular food, but the other is the healthy type, or maybe they are on a diet. It is no big secret that usually, when going to a burger establishment, they do not offer the healthiest options, and even when they do, it is just a salad. However, At Kin, they do offer both options. They have big meaty burgers that most of us crave. While still offering healthy alternatives. From Burgers with bacon to soymilk with healthy fillers to tofu French fries. The selection is unique to what I usually experience.
Where do I start with these burgers!? The classic burgers come with one hundred fifty grams of beef, lettuce, tomato, onions, and home made pickles placed perfectly in between two in-house-made buns. The cheese is melted in a small pan before being fixed on top of the burger. The flavors of this burger are spot on, and a couple I met really love this burger. The quality of the burger you can taste as soon as you bite into it. For burger lovers, you can’t go wrong, and to make things even better the burger comes with fries for only 155 baht.
For those that are a bit have a big appetite, you have to try their BLT & Egg Cheeseburger. As the name suggests, it comes with an egg and two slices of crispy bacon, which is only an extra 20 baht more than the Classic Burger. Make sure your hunger is intact because this is more than filling and so tasty!
I did want to mention that KIN also offers something you rarely see before, which is options on your choice of cut of fries. They have regular fries, as well as skinned potato fries (wedges) as an option. If you don’t feel like eating potatoes, you can opt to go with their Tofu fries.
This is a menu item you don’t often see in a burger shop. Soy milk. But as menus and palates grow, it was bound to happen. As I sat there enjoying my burger, I noticed that people were coming in and out of the shop just ordering drinks. It turns out that most were ordering soymilk to go. Some of the orders I saw made were plain, and some had plenty of toppings.
When talking to the staff, they had mentioned that the soy milk helped lower the acid that rose after eating a burger—a fascinating concept. One that was new to me, but as the world moves towards being more conscious about the food and how the body reacts to certain foods. It’s astonishing to see it as a concept of a burger shop.
Soybean is known to be a good source of low-fat and plant-based protein. It is cholesterol-free, with less saturated fat, with fewer calories than whole milk. It’s a good source of potassium and can be fortified with vitamins and contains 7 g of protein per serving, which is great for a heart-healthy diet. So, it is no surprise to me to being used as a healthy option, but it astounds me to find out how it can also interact with your body and other foods you consume.
Whether you’re looking for healthy alternatives or looking for a good burger, KIN is a restaurant that shouldn’t be overlooked. Quality, quantity, taste, and Value. They check off all these boxes.
